Ranier Bezzina appointed Acting President of Hibernians Football Club

Statement by the Hibernians Football Club Executive Committee.

The Hibernians Football Club Executive Committee would like to announce that during a meeting of the club committee chaired by the Vice President, Mr. Alex Montebello, it was unanimously agreed that the club’s General Manager, Mr. Ranier Bezzina, would be co-opted as a member of the club’s executive committee, as well as assume all of the role and functions of Acting President of Hibernians until the end of the current football season until an Annual General Meeting is held.

This decision was made on the spur of the moment because, though the club’s statute specifies that when the office of President becomes vacant, an Extraordinary General Meeting must be held within three weeks to fill the post, given the steps agreed by the Government to monitor the advancement of COVID-19, such a general meeting is not physically possible to hold.

The Executive Committee meeting began with a unanimous vote of thanks and an acclamation to the late President Anthony Bezzina, who wrote the most glorious pages in the history of Hibernians Football Club and whose absence will be felt not only by Hibernians officials, team, and supporters, but by the entire Maltese football family, especially the Paola community.
