Hibs were made to work for their 2-0 win over Zejtun Corinthians.
A goal in each half kept them in contention for the title, still two points adrift of Hamrun who beat Gzira 2-1.
Hibs got off to the perfect start with a goal in the opening minutes. Gilmar jinked his way past a couple of defenders, then fed Degabriele who raced along the bye-line before passing to Grech who slotted home from close range.
Despite the early lead, Hibs found it difficult to break down Zejtun who showed that despite their poor placing in the premiership, they were no push-overs.
At the break it was still just the Jake Grech goal that separated the teams.
The second half started brightly enough and on the hour Zejtun’s keeper Cassar produced a point blank save to deny Almeida.
Hibs did get a second goal mid-way through the second half when substitute Fonseca bullied the Zejtun defence and set up Gilmar to volley past Cassar to seal the win for Hibernians.
There was still time for Zejtun to set Hibs nerves jangling when in the final minute they had their best chance of the game only for Almeida to clear off the line.
An entertaining match ended with Hibernians claiming the points but a warning from Zejtun that there are no easy games in the premiership.
